Julienne: I am a graduating Marketing Diploma student at NAIT based in Edmonton, Alberta Canada where I have strong foundations in Marketing, PR and Research. After landing a summer job in a local sports nutrition company, I gained hands-on experience in content strategy, social media management, email marketing and campaign planning.
MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Julienne: Creating compelling content in social media for your target audience may come with a lot of pressure especially when you're absorbing information from your boss, competitors, trends and other resources. It is important to identify your product/service's value and your audience, and close the gap between the two with slow and steady yet quality messaging.
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?
Julienne: I am interested to work in advertising agencies that have launched amazing campaigns for big brands. Theo: I'm an enthusiastic music industry professional with 9+ yrs experience at the intersection of artist development, marketing strategy & creative world building. I kickstarted my career by founding a talent management company out of my freshman dorm room. Fortunately, 4 years later I was able to run that business full time after graduation and leveraged that success to launch a sister-venture record label in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment. After exiting my music ventures and taking some time off to work with kids, I returned to the music streaming arena as the Artist Marketing Manager at TIDAL, helping to build a premier emerging artist program. I can't wait for my next adventure in 2024!
MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Theo: Sometimes I act and respond too quickly. I spent a lot of time in my career as a talent manager where speed mattered for everything because our industry is so reactionary these days - from viral trends and charting opportunities, to timely sync deals.. not to mention working with artists all over the world in different time zones. In today’s connected world it’s so easy to just get a message and respond instantly. The issue of course is that your first response is not always the best response, and sometimes I should really slow down to think about what I wanna say, because once I have responded or said something in motion it can be hard to stop that.
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role?
Theo: I'd like to continue doing cool sh*t with cool people.
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Theo: Timing is a b*tch.

Alexia: I am a marketing and public relations professional with over two years of experience in the industry. I have had the wonderful pleasure of working with non-profits, full-service agencies, and most recently corporate. I bring exceptional writing, media relations and client management to the table. I have just transitioned out of my contractor role from my previous job seeing full-time roles in the PR industry.
MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Alexia: I have learned that it is so detrimental to dwell on your mistakes. Even when you make a mistake, a good leader will make it clear to you, but at the same time, a great leader won't talk down to you because of that mistake. Not even in a stand up for myself kind of way, more so in the sense of letting people get to know who I am outside of my job and my profession. That is something I really grappled with during my most recent job with UofL Health. Everyone on the team knew a little about thier hobbies, thier pets, kids, etc. And I wish I would have been more invested with my team in thier lives and I would have opened up a little more for mine.

MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Carmen: You have to leave space for creativity. If you're booked to the hilt with Zoom calls, briefings, more briefings, legal review, executive review, more legal review (you get where this is going) there's no time for that nugget to come to you that might turn into a bigger, out-of-the-box campaign. I'm going to somehow build in "creative time" for my team in my next role.
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role?
Carmen: B2C, B2B - it shouldn't matter for a skilled storyteller! That said, in my next role, I'd like to continue coaching and mentoring teams in their creative journey, and to find a role where I'm a trusted subject matter expert and allowed to pull on the strings that other people might not see, using my data-backed strategic mindset.
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Carmen: You won't wake up when you're 90 and think "I wish I'd have worked more." You HAVE to manage your own precious resources, so that you can help others manage theirs, which makes us all better employees at the end of the day.

Brendan: I'm a seasoned recruitment professional with extensive experience in the marketing & advertising space, both client-side and as a third-party vendor. While I've recruited for just about any role under the sun, my career has typically stood at the intersection of Creative & Paid Media. I've spent time with an array of companies, from start-ups to large holding companies, so I'm very comfortable navigating different landscapes.

MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?

Chloe: I've been in content marketing my whole career, and telling stories since elementary school, handing out zines about lunch specials in 'My Made Up World.' I've been on the editorial side for years and shifted over to marketing about a decade ago, most recently at a b2b tech company that became an HR tech unicorn, valued at £1.15, where I led the global content strategy and team, creating a content engine that fueled millions in pipeline and net new sales. After lapping the millennial tenure a few times over, I'm now looking for my next adventure at a company I can wake every day excited about.
MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Chloe: You know that saying, put your own life mask on before helping others? I think in a time where burnout is becoming more and more normal, finding ways to bring your best self to work has become even more important. Setting healthy boundaries seems counterproductive, but in reality, it'll help you love your job even more if you can define what you need in your day to day.
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role?
Chloe: I'd love to get back to work building and optimizing a content engine at a company that has a mission I feel passionate about. I've been in B2B tech for 7.5 years so that's where I feel most comfortable, but at this point in my career I'm most excited about being in an environment where I can teach what I know, and soak up what I don't.
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Chloe: Observing is a massive part of learning. Figure out who you admire most, and then study them. How do they act when they're "in the spotlight" and how do they bring people with them? What leadership lessons can you learn from simply observing?
MHH: Tell us briefly about your career thus far!
Amy: I'm a copywriter and content strategist. Most recently, I was at Stripe and have primarily worked in the fintech, SaaS, and start-up space. Additionally, I have a history of non-profit experience and freelance copy work.
MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Amy: I learned to always over-communicate, especially when you're working with a siloed or large team, about who is delivering what, and when.
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?
Amy: I'd love to work for a social-impact or mission-driven organization. I'm hoping to have an impact in copy and branding while also getting to dig into UX a bit.
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Amy: There are tons of free and helpful online resources just a Google away! I'm doing a lot of self-taught UX work, and I would've started sooner if I'd known how accessible it can be.

Aditi: In the realm of B2B SaaS content, the need goes beyond mere writing; it demands a blend of sharpness, sophistication, and market-dominating copy. As a content marketer, staying three steps ahead is crucial to captivate, convert, and conquer. That's the expertise I bring to the table. I venture beyond traditional SEO and social media, transforming words from mundane to irresistibly engaging. With 12 years of experience in SEO content writing and over 6 years in B2B SaaS, I've guided brands in ideation, strategy, and execution, delivering impactful results.
MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Aditi: In Healthcare/Health tech SEO, to succeed, you must implement strategies beyond SEO. This should combine influencer marketing, ABM marketing, podcasts, and paid ads. The focus should be on establishing trust.

Listening to customer calls is a must.
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?

In such an environment, I can significantly impact the company's growth and success from the ground up.
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Aditi: You need to ask the right and hard questions at every step to understand whether you are making the right decisions.

Nitesh: After beginning my career in sports media, I transitioned to the world of tech and marketing specifically as a copywriter. I've spent time in several different industries including smart home, video editing platforms, and a little bit of time at a B2B marketing agency.
MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Nitesh: The feedback received from one stakeholder may not be aligned with another. Instead of trying to write copy to please both stakeholders, speak up and let the team know what's happening.
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?
Nitesh: I'm looking to continue my growth as a copywriter and take on more of a leadership/mentorship role. I'd love to work for an EV company like Lucid, Rivian, or Tesla. Beyond that, I'm not opposed to join a company that combines sports and technology.
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Nitesh: Your first draft doesn't have to be perfect. I used to get on myself for writing copy that would be reviewed and edited because I always felt my copy was the best. I know better now and that a first draft is rarely ready to be published.

Rohit: A curious marketer with over 9 years of experience in marketing. My journey has been a combination of creating engaging campaigns, spinning stories that resonate, and generating leads that actually lead somewhere (pun intended)!
MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Rohit: Don’t be afraid to try new things, it might not make sense - its okay to fail but fail fast and learn faster to build more engaging campaigns.
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?
Rohit: I'm on a quest for something a bit more... permanent. I’m talking about a company that values stability as much as I do - a place where I can unpack my bags, decorate my desk, and really settle in. A company where the chairs don’t disappear when the music stops. Dream companies: SaaS/ Tech companies (Freshworks, SFDC, Adobe, Hubspot).
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?

Haydn: After graduating from university, I threw myself into the deep end of social media management. Initially freelancing before joining an agency and progressing quickly through their ranks, I let my work speak for itself and had the opportunity to work with some of their biggest and most exciting clients as a result.
MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Haydn: In organic social, it can be easy to conform to the boardroom (instead of your audience). If you can't track revenue directly from it then a lot of C-Suites will simply not get behind it. This results in overly corporate and frankly boring content. In my last role, I learnt to write strategies that inspired trust in the boardroom that enabled us agency to create exciting content and drive results.
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?
Haydn: I want to work with brands that are as ambitious as I am. Brands that are willing to push the boundaries to create innovative, exciting and entertaining content.
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Haydn: Understanding what works on social media is about understanding people. Why are they on social media? What do they do on it? How do they use it? When do they use it? Where are they likely to see your content? I think any strategy written from a position of understanding your audience is bound to be more effective than those that aren't.

MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Allyson: Always keep track of your wins! Whether it's for your next performance review, or you're looking for a new job, it's helpful to have a document that contains details of all of your wins (big and small).
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?
Allyson: I'm looking for a role with a strategic communications team, and an executive team that really understands that value that communications professionals bring to an organization. Dream companies: Slack, monday.com, Salesforce.
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Allyson: The importance of consistent communication with your team, including managing others. Not just managing down (your direct reports), but also managing up (your manager) and across (anyone you're working with on a project).
MHH: Tell us briefly about your career thus far!
Megan: I thought I would be in advertising but the 2008/2009 recession had other plans! I pivoted into ecomm and digital marketing and cut my teeth at Hudson's Bay. I worked for a number of large retailers and companies to grow my skill set. About a year ago I took a risk and moved over to healthcare and was let go due to budget constraints. Here I am pivoting again and trying out freelance.
MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?
Megan: Trust your instincts. There were some red flags during hiring and early days on the job that I wish I had not brushed off so lightly. I think my lesson is to recognize my worth and trust that the right fit will come along and not force anything.
MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?
Megan: In my future role I'm looking for mentorship. I now know I'm a motivated learner and would like to work with someone who sees that as a good thing rather than a threat.
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Megan: Find mentorship. Having someone who's been around the block and can see your situation from a different perspective while still having your best interests at heart is golden.

Allison: I seek an organization that recognizes the pivotal role of strategic communication in fostering engagement and growth. I'm drawn to progressive workplaces that embrace the evolution of traditional work structures and value innovative, outside-the-box thinking, particularly in enhancing both the employee and customer experience to drive further engagement.
MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Allison: One valuable insight I've gained over the years is the significance of building and nurturing relationships. When I started my career, I focused intensely on tasks and goals, but I've since learned that the connections you forge along the way are equally crucial. These relationships, both within and outside the organization, can offer support, insight, and opportunities that are not always apparent at first. Understanding the power of a strong professional network early on would have greatly enriched my career journey and decision-making processes.

MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?

MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?
Hannah: A few dream companies that I would love to work for are Sephora, Disney, or NBCUniversal. I am also super interested in working for a big agency like Ogilvy. As for the position itself, I am looking for Social Media/Influencer Marketing, Advertising, or Marketing Coordinator Roles.
