MHH: Tell us briefly about your professional experience thus far!

Lindley: Got hired full-time at Geneva doing D2C sales within the college demo after working as a brand ambassador during my last semester of school, and got promoted to a Community Coordinator position after a few months on the team! Wore many hats and gained a lot of valuable experience as is common with working at a startup, but unfortunately our marketing team was let go at the end of 2023.

MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?

Lindley: Make your ideas heard! I was lucky to work with strong leaders on a team where no idea was too small and collaboration was encouraged, and that's given me a confidence that I probably wouldn't have gotten until much later in my career if it weren't for my time at Geneva.

MHH: What are you looking for in a future role?

Lindley: Strong leadership and space to learn and grow is a must! Brands that are well established but aren't afraid to take risks and challenge what is expected really stand out to me. Bumble, Olipop, and Dutch Bros are the brands whose career pages I'm checking constantly!

MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?

Jake Terrell (prev. VP, Music & Brand Partnerships at BENlabs)

Open to in-office or hybrid opportunities in Portland, OR, or Remote

Connect with Jake on LinkedIn

MHH: Tell us briefly about your career thus far!

Jake: I've been working in music licensing, brand partnerships and marketing for over 16 years, leading everything from sales, copywriting and account management to campaign strategy and execution across digital and traditional media, consumer products, and custom content.

MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?

Jake: Passion moves people. A large part of my previous successes has been my sincere enthusiasm for my team, my client, their vision, and our collective collaboration toward the creation of something new in the market.

MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?

Jake: I love working in music marketing and I'd be thrilled to find the right place to do more of that work with both established and challenger brands, but I'd also love to *formally* expand my purview beyond music alone. My resume lists largely music-centric experience, but I've also brokered partnerships with non-musicians and have won RFPs that had nothing to do with music, so I'd like to lean into and cultivate those disciplines at an agency. I would be especially passionate about leading accounts/campaigns for progressive brands that seek to authentically speak to and uplift underrepresented communities and voices.

MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?

Jake: That my instincts tend to bring me to the most desirable outcome. I spent the early part of my career dealing with a lot of imposter syndrome - and to some extent, I think conscientiousness around improving professionally is healthy. I'm all enthusiasm, zero ego -I want to keep learning and growing. But I also have learned to trust that I am a thoughtful person who doesn't lose the forest for the trees, and I've built a ton of mutually beneficial relationships by leaning into what I know is right, not by acquiescing to status quo or to the wrong advice.

I would love to work in any industry, honestly, as long as I am in the marketing/communications department.

MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?

Eshaan: It won't actually ever be easy unless and until you truly believe in yourself. Learning to understand that there's no place in being adamant or arrogant about decisions because there's always a right time for everything and everything will happen and fall into place when it's supposed to. You might see so many people around you who put on a facade about perfection but they will rarely ever discuss the failures and embarrassments, and it's okay to learn and unlearn and figure things out along the way even when nothing goes according to the plan.

MHH: Tell us briefly about your career thus far!

Emily: I've spent the majority of my career as a leading agency partner to rapidly growing DTC brands. Most recently, I pursued a client-side marketing role at a Publisher but was unfortunately let go alongside hundreds of fellow colleagues after only one year of attempting to grow their digital facets. I am still seeking a client-side role at a growing business to make true impact on their bottom line via marketing and media efforts-- can be earned, owned, or paid.

MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?

MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?

Emily: I am pursuing a role at a company that values hard work and commitment, and I am not partial to a certain vertical or category. I am seeking brands that have aggressive growth goals and place their investment in their people to achieve them.

MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?

Emily: I've learned an extremely valuable lesson throughout COVID, and that is: chemistry with colleagues -- and therefore being back to the office -- is definitely for me. I've learned who it's not for, and those folks are not my people. To achieve productivity and progress, I need to be in a room with others, brainstorming, constructing and criticizing.. it's how I stay motivated.

MHH: Tell us briefly about your career thus far!

Marisa: I began my career on the agency side in media planning but yearned for a deeper understanding of brand management. This led me to transition to Boost Mobile, where I joined as part of the integrated marketing team during its nationwide launch. In the absence of a dedicated brand manager, I naturally evolved into a brand management role, spearheading multiple initiatives such as refining the brand's positioning, launching advertising campaigns, and overseeing a brand identity refresh.

Over time, my role expanded to include advertising responsibilities. Seeking new challenges after * years, I joined Pacific Life Insurance Company, where I managed advertising, notably incorporating storytelling strategies into our iconic humpback whale TV spots. Subsequently, I transitioned to University of California Irvine Health, leading marketing communications for the Health Advancement team. Here, I oversaw marketing for the UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge, collaborated with physicians on fundraising initiatives, and crafted proposals for major donors.

At The Buddy Group, an agency in Orange County, I directed strategic planning efforts for client projects and spearheaded a comprehensive initiative to define and document the agency's culture through the creation of a Culture Code Manual.

Although I enjoyed agency work, my passion for direct brand involvement led me to Bestow Life Insurance, where I was the inaugural brand strategy hire. During my tenure, I developed key brand assets, including a new brand positioning statement, governance framework, research plan, employer brand marketing strategy, and B2B marketing approach.

Now, I am eager to apply my extensive experience and skills as a brand strategy leader to a new opportunity. I specialize in crafting impactful and innovative brand strategies that resonate emotionally with consumers, leveraging storytelling and effective communication to reach and engage target audiences. Throughout my career, I have successfully developed brand strategies that align with business objectives and foster growth. By collaborating cross-functionally with key stakeholders, I ensure that brand and marketing initiatives are fully aligned with organizational goals. Leading integrated marketing teams, I orchestrate seamless and consistent marketing touchpoints, delivering cohesive brand messaging.

MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?

Marisa: One of my initial objectives was to engage with key stakeholders within my first three weeks of joining. This enabled me to gain firsthand insights into their expectations, working dynamics, and responsibilities. By actively listening during these meetings, I identified areas where I could provide support through actionable strategies.

I place a strong emphasis on collaboration and consider myself a highly collaborative leader. I understand the value of cross-functional partnerships and strive to develop solutions that promote organizational alignment and drive collective success.

MHH: What are you looking for in a future role?

Marisa: I am eager to collaborate with brands that embody an entrepreneurial spirit and foster a strong culture of collaboration. I thrive when working alongside colleagues who share a high level of engagement and passion for their work.

MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?

Marisa: Don't sweat the small stuff. Mistakes happen, own up to them and move on.

MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?

Taylor Burt (prev. Social & Brand Marketing Manager at Pattern Brands)

MHH: Tell us briefly about your career thus far!

Taylor: I started off in Marketing about 5 years back on BARK's social team. I was running the day-to-day operations for some of their smaller accounts, creating content and helping out in brainstorming larger marketing moments. Over the years I moved from posting to outlining social strategy and then managing social campaigns. I worked mainly on creating buzz around our retail and licensing partnerships which involved working closely with both influencers and PR. I then took all my learnings and moved over to Pattern, where I oversaw the social calendar and a team of social freelancers running the accounts while building out brand guides for each of their brands.

MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?

Taylor: How to prioritize! Working at a start-up that has seven different brands under it's umbrella means there's always multiple things going on at once. You have to really be able to take a step back, look at your list of things to do ,and rearrange them based on deadline and importance to keep yourself from dropping the ball or getting overwhelmed.

MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?

Taylor: In a future role, I'm hoping to focus on brand or influencer (or both!) marketing. These are two areas I feel super passion about and think there's so much room to play and create. In terms of dream companies, I'd love to end up in the travel space one day so places like Airbnb and Away are high on my list.

MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?

Taylor: Build a portfolio of everything you work on as it's happening, even if it just starts out as bullet points. It's easy to say "oh I'll just go back and add everything later" but in reality, you'll forget important details or entire projects you've worked on depending on how long you wait. It's helpful to have a living, breathing doc of all the things you've accomplished not only for future employers but also so you can recognize how much you've grown and how far you've come.

MHH: Tell us briefly about your career thus far!

Sudeshna: I'm Sudeshna Das, originally from India and now happily settled in Florence, Italy. Design isn't just what I do; it's who I am, shaped by a fusion of cultures and experiences. With a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and a Master's Degree in Graphic and Furniture Design, my creative journey over the past seven years has been a thrilling adventure of bringing ideas to life and crafting captivating designs that tell compelling stories.

MHH: In your most recent role, what was a valuable lesson you learned that you’ll take with you into your next role?

Sudeshna: In my recent role leading design teams, I've learned the power of appreciating every team member, boosting morale and fostering stronger bonds. Embracing feedback from all team members, prioritizing work-life balance, and celebrating everyone's success has been instrumental in driving our collective success, lessons I'm eager to bring into my next role.

MHH: What are you looking for in a future role? Are there any dream companies you’d like to work for?

Sudeshna: In my journey toward finding the perfect role, stability, and financial security are top priorities, especially after overcoming past challenges. Ideally, I'm seeking an opportunity that offers long-term stability, extending for at least 2-3 years or more. Beyond stability, I place great emphasis on achieving a healthy work-life balance. I'm drawn to environments that foster well-being, allowing me to thrive both personally and professionally. Constructive feedback is invaluable to me, it's the key to refining my skills and continuously growing. As a lifelong learner, I'm passionate about staying updated on industry trends and collaborating with colleagues who inspire me. Feeling valued and appreciated as a team member is essential. I thrive in environments that recognize individual contributions and celebrate collective successes. Recognition and appreciation are not just perks, they're powerful motivators that drive me to deliver my best work every day. I'm eager to contribute positively to any team that values these principles as much as I do.

Although I have a list of brands and companies I've always dreamed of working with, the past 8-10 months have been a humbling experience. Despite my aspirations, the current job market challenges have made me realize the importance of flexibility. I understand that sometimes, the perfect opportunity may not come from the places we expect. I'm open to considering any offer that aligns with my criteria and would be grateful for the chance to contribute my skills and passion to a new team.

MHH: What's something you know now that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?

Sudeshna: Reflecting on my career trajectory, I've come to understand that welcoming failure is essential for personal and professional development. Setbacks aren't roadblocks but opportunities to evolve and become stronger. Each stumble has taught me resilience, guiding me towards success. So, to those starting their journey, remember that it's okay to stumble, it's part of the process. Just keep going, because when the time is right, everything will fall into place, often when you least expect it.

Moreover, I've realized the importance of patience. Even when progress seems slow and days blend together, trust that change is on the horizon. Sometimes, in the blink of an eye, everything can transform beyond what you ever imagined.

Lastly, I've learned not to waste time dreaming about success but to actively pursue it. Instead of dwelling on aspirations, focus on taking tangible steps towards achieving them. Success isn't just about dreaming, it's about creating and turning those dreams into reality through hard work and dedication.
